Le domaine Château Troplong Mondot
Le domaine de Mondot sur lequel est implanté le vignoble de Troplong Mondot existe depuis le XVIIIème siècle.
Lorsque l'abbé Raymond de Sèze, issu d'une prestigieuse famille bordelaise, édifie le château actuel, le domaine de Mondot compte déjà parmi les grands vins de Saint-Emilion. En 1850, Raymond Troplong, qui est, par la suite, devenu Président du Sénat, complète le domaine, et sa superficie ne sera quasiment plus modifiée par la suite. Son neveu, Edouard Troplong, adjoint son nom à celui de Mondot avant de le vendre à la famille Valette.
Les quelques 43 hectares de vignoble, composés pour une grande partie de vieilles vignes (20 ans en moyenne, mais jusqu'à 90 ans pour les plus anciennes), bénéficient d'une exposition parfaite et d'un drainage naturel car ils sont situés sur le point culminant de Saint-Emilion. Revu régulièrement, le Classement de Saint-Emilion a consacré, en 2006, Troplong Mondot comme 1er Grand Cru Classé B, un rang confirmé en 2012 et 2022.
