Information
Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Diageo
Founded in 1860, Dailuaine was quickly incorporated into the Distillers Company Limited, which saved a large number of Scottish distilleries from closure at the end of the First World War. From then on, it became a key component in the blends Buchanan and Johnnie Walker. Its name was also associated with that of the Talisker distillery, with which it formed part of the group Dailuaine - Talisker Distilleries Ltd. for some 15 years between 1989 and 1915. A trademark still by found by a lucky few on historic bottlings of Talisker. Bottlings in its own name are extremely limited and found in the ranges The Rare Malts Selection, Flora & Fauna and Manager's Dram. Notably, however, a superb limited edition was released in 1997 in the very brief Flora & Fauna Cask Strength range, a sherry cask 1980 vintage.
A Dailuaine distilled in 1983 and bottled in 2013 by Wemyss Malts. Wemyss Malts was founded in 2005 by William and Isabella Wemyss, descendants of the Wemyss clan from Fife, where the Haig distillery was built in 1840. Isabella selects the malts and William draws on his experience as a blender to create blended malts with the help of experts like Charles Maclean. Every expression has a well-defined identity reflected in names like The Hive, Spice King and Peat Chimney. Today, the business also bottles single malts with lyrical single malts similar to those of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The business is also involved in the Kingsbarn distillery in Fife. A limited edition of 311 bottles.
