Information
Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Diageo
Founded in 1860, Dailuaine was quickly incorporated into the Distillers Company Limited, which saved a large number of Scottish distilleries from closure at the end of the First World War. From then on, it became a key component in the blends Buchanan and Johnnie Walker. Its name was also associated with that of the Talisker distillery, with which it formed part of the group Dailuaine - Talisker Distilleries Ltd. for some 15 years between 1989 and 1915. A trademark still by found by a lucky few on historic bottlings of Talisker. Bottlings in its own name are extremely limited and found in the ranges The Rare Malts Selection, Flora & Fauna and Manager's Dram. Notably, however, a superb limited edition was released in 1997 in the very brief Flora & Fauna Cask Strength range, a sherry cask 1980 vintage.
Expressions of Dailuaine are rare despite the distillery’’s impressive production capacities, as the majority of the spirit is used in Johnnie Walker’’s blends. Only a few bottlings in its own name are produced, including this single malt. Distilled in 1996, it spent 13 years in bourbon casks before being bottled in 2010.
This generous whisky reveals delicious fruity aromas and wonderful floral touches. Spices and an earthy note add the finishing touches to the nose. The creamy palate reveals concentrated honey flavours. Lemony notes nonetheless bring freshness and balance before a long smoky finish.
