Information
Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Diageo
Founded in 1860, Dailuaine was quickly incorporated into the Distillers Company Limited, which saved a large number of Scottish distilleries from closure at the end of the First World War. From then on, it became a key component in the blends Buchanan and Johnnie Walker. Its name was also associated with that of the Talisker distillery, with which it formed part of the group Dailuaine - Talisker Distilleries Ltd. for some 15 years between 1989 and 1915. A trademark still by found by a lucky few on historic bottlings of Talisker. Bottlings in its own name are extremely limited and found in the ranges The Rare Malts Selection, Flora & Fauna and Manager's Dram. Notably, however, a superb limited edition was released in 1997 in the very brief Flora & Fauna Cask Strength range, a sherry cask 1980 vintage.
All the majority of Dailuaine’’s production is used in Johnnie Walker’’s blends, the distillery luckily does release some bottlings in its own name, showcasing its unique profile. Distilled in 1996 in the heart of Speyside (a Scottish island), this single malt was then matured for 16 years in bourbon casks. Only 286 bottles were drawn from this single cask in 2012, bottled at 52.4%.
The malty nose reveals honey notes and a hint of wax. On the palate, spices like nutmeg and ginger, and bitter orange mix with the malt and notes of roasted apple before a slightly bitter finish.
