Information
Having acquired a real reputation with the wines from his trade, since 2006, with the help of his son, Dominique Laurent has also created a small producer-farming establishment from vineyards leased to a winemaker of Vosne-Romanée. He does not deal with vinification but élevage and bottling. Nevertheless, he supervises vinification. The father and son like to work grape musts that have not been destemmed and to mature their wines without sulphur. They use new barrels, the signature of the maison. Dominique Laurent's entire range of wines is characterised by a high degree of purity and to be accessible to all ages. This recipe has proved its worth to fans all over the world.
Musigny stretches over almost ten hectares above Clos de Vougeot, between 260 and 300 metres above sea level on a rocky, chalky terrace, which is rich in clay in places. Its name is thought to originate from an old family, who were important at the court of the Dukes of Burgundy in the 14th century. Nowadays, Pinot Noir vines spread across a steep slope, producing complex wines with an incredible length. This is where Dominique Laurent sources these grapes from old vines, which he then vinifies with the utmost care, favouring grapes that are not destemmed and a long maturation in oak barrels from the Tronçais forest.
The full charm of this grand cru is expressed in a bewitching bouquet of violets and plums, mixed with sweet spices. On the palate, power and elegance combine in a harmonious and perfectly structured ensemble, where a pleasant minerality emerges. This is a wine that should be left to mature in a cellar for several years, before being enjoyed with Peking duck or a soft-ripened cow’s cheese such as a Coulommiers.
