Information
Created in 1765, the Hennessy brand was born of the vision of one man, Richard Hennessy. An Irish officer enlisted in Louis XV's army, Hennessy very quickly saw cognac's potential on the international market. He set up his own bottling business and founded a dynasty that would span eight generations. Hennessy soon acquired a reputation for exceptional cognacs and the appellations it created were used by all of the other cognac brands, including Very Old Superior Old Pale (VSOP) and Extra Old (XO). In 250 years Hennessy has remained the world leader in cognac.
This cognac was designed by Maurice Hennessy in 1870. Very rich, it is sold in a beautiful box that showcases its skilled and complex blend. Some hundred eaux-de-vie are found in this X.O. (for Extra Old) bottling, which explains its breath-taking complexity. A tasting reveals a truly precious nectar with a deep, intense amber colour, beautifully introducing a just as powerful bouquet of aromas. We can pick out notes of candied fruit, sweet spices (cinnamon, clove, vanilla, ginger), caramel and blonde tobacco. On the palate, a creamy texture envelops the palate, lingering persistently on flavours of cocoa, candied fruit and blonde tobacco. This is a deep and powerful beverage guaranteed to offer seasoned enthusiasts and connoisseurs a moving moment of contemplation.
