Information
The Rhum Rhum distillery was created in Marie-Galante as part of a project launched in 2004 by Vittorio Giani Capovilla—a Veneto brandy and grappa distiller—and Luca Gargano—head of the Genoese importer and bottler Velier. Housed for a long time at Bielle, the distillery uses a pot still designed by Andreas Muller to produce rhum agricole from local varieties of sugarcane. The rums are then aged in bourbon casks and large French wine barrels.
Under the impetus of rum enthusiast Luca Gargano, the master of brandy distillation Vittorio Gianni Capovilla began producing his own rhum agricole in 2004 at the Bielle distillery in Marie Galante, in the heart of the Caribbean. Simply named RhumRhum, his company brings to light forgotten varieties of sugar cane from the island’’s long sugar-producing past, no longer found elsewhere.
It is the cask strength version of its 2012 vintage found here, bottled at 59.9% ABV. This powerful and rich rhum agricole reveals a palette of aromas dominated by citrus fruits, which are accompanied by flavours of meringue, green banana and dried herbs. A few notes of tar, green malt and cut hay are also present. The finish is drawn out by the delicious flavour of fresh sugar cane. Despite its high bottling strength, this limited edition rum is delicate and refined.
