Information
Domaine les 4 Vents - formerly Domaine de Lucie - lies in Mercurol in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Lucie Fourel moved here in 2006, not far from her parents who supplied grapes to the Cave at Tain l'Hermitage. She converted her 4-hectare vineyard to organic in 2007 but didn't release her first vintage until 2010 (until then she supplied a cooperative). Lucie's sister, Nancy, joined her in 2013 and when their parents retired in 2015 they took over their 6 hectare vineyard and renamed the business Domaine les 4 Vents. The property is fully certified as organic and the wines are made with indigenous yeasts and no additives. This very interesting domain is definitely one to watch!
Saint-Jaimes owes its name to the parcel which yields the Syrah grapes that compose this wine. The parcel was in fact planted 50 years ago by the grandfather of the domain's managers near the family farm in the Saint-Jaimes district of Mercurol. During the summer heat, the vines experience serious water stress which, later, lends the wine concentration and power. Vinification is performed mainly in whole bunches. Vatting lasts a month, with little intervention to allow the grapes and the terroir to express themselves. The wine is then matured for one year in demi-muid casks. An intense colour and concentrated bouquet, rendered sublime by notes of red and black berries on the palate.
