Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières Simon Bize & Fils 2005
The wine
Les Serpentières is a wonderful wine meant to accompany fine food and it should be aged for a few years so it can reach its full potential. On the nose it has aromas reminiscent of Pinot Noir (red fruit including cherries, spices and leather). On the palate it is finely balanced with some acidity and elegantly incorporated tannins, generous and full-bodied. The finish has wonderfully long-lasting aromas.
About the Producer Simon Bize et Fils
Simon Bize created his domaine in 1880 in Savigny les Beaune. Four generations later, Patrick Bize took over the family domaine in 1972 and managed it until he passed away in 2013, when his sister, Marielle Grivot, took over. The quality of the wines is consistent, with fine reds, sublime and very precise white wines. This 22-hectare area produces small quantities and maintains reasonable prices, which therefore limits its availability.
