Information
Settled in Savoie in the 1970s, Michel Grisard became a regional legend thanks to his ambitious and avant-garde choices. It was in 1994 that he decided to convert his domain to biodynamics, a largely unknown practise at the time. The only problem with his wine is how little there is of it! With just 6 hectares of vines shared between Mondeuse (red varietal) and Altesse (white varietal), he produces around 20,000 bottles a year. Following specific rules, the vine-growing has always been clean and eco-friendly with low and masterful yields. In the winery, Michel aims to vinify in whole harvests in order to preserve all the crispness of the Mondeuse grape. In 2015, Michel Grisard bowed out, and now the Giachino brothers have taken up the vineyard with the intention of continuing their predecessor's tradition and savoir-faire for as long as possible.
A leading name in the Savoie wine scene, Michel Grisard’s sole ambition is to promote the heritage of his beloved region. To this end, he has set himself the goal of restoring life and nobility to forgotten vineyards. His passion for sustainable agriculture quickly prompted him to adopt biodynamic methods, combined with rigorous yield regulation. These strict methods continue in the winery and guarantee top-quality raw materials. The Mondeuse vines, on average 35 years old, are entirely harvested by hand. The grapes are then vinified in a gentle, low-intervention fashion.
The intense purple colour reveals a rich nose, displaying notes of blackcurrant and blackberry. The perfectly structured and balanced palate is graced with luscious fruity flavours leading to a persistent and slightly mineral finish. This cuvée will reveal its full aromatic potential in its youth.
