Information
At 800m of altitude, Ridge Vineyards is the highest vineyard in California. This parcel is ideally situated: east-facing and protected from the violent wines of the Pacific. Its altitude also lends a pleasant nighttime coolness allowing the grapes to reach perfect ripeness.
Tucked away at the heart of the Dry Creek Valley region, the vines of Zinfandel, Carignan and Petite Syrah flourish on clay-limestone soils. The estate, widely recognised for the quality of its wines, operates exclusively according to organic farming methods. The vines, situated in the Alexander Valley appellation area, fall under this rule. In the winery, vinification is conducted with minimal intervention, inspired by methods used in the 19th century. Finally, the cuvée is aged for 13 months in American casks, 20% of which are new, before being bottled with great care.
The rudy-red colour is enhanced by an enticing bouquet of blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant. The complex and balanced palate combines fruity notes with hints of cocoa and cloves, mingling with creamy tannins. The incredibly long finish reveals a subtle hint of limestone.
