Information
Domaine Bizot is a very small property: three cuvées are made from a mere 1.7 hectares of vineyards in the Vosne-Romanée appellation. Jean-Yves Bizot lives in the street where Henri Jayer used to live and he uses his techniques for his wines; fermentation at low temperature in truncated wooden vats, for example. Bizot wines are bottled by hand, barrel by barrel, without filtration.
Renowned for producing some of Burgundy’s finest Pinot Noirs since the 1960s, the estate tends five hectares of vines using biodynamic methods, without holding a certification. Located on either side of the Grands Crus, the Vosne-Romanée appellation is home to Pinot Noir vines that are ideally exposed to the east. The limestone, clay and marl soils nourish the vines with the nutrients they need to thrive.
The deep, intense ruby-red colour is graced with purple tints, promising a fragrant bouquet. The complex, seductive nose reveals subtle aromas of ripe red fruit, such as raspberry and cherry, together with hints of liquorice and sweet spices. On the palate, the silky tannins are seamlessly integrated into a creamy texture offering flavours of red fruit, spices and hints of undergrowth, leading to a fresh, lingering finish.
