Information
Back in 1880, Léonce Bocquet, the owner of Château du Clos de Vougeot and part of the surrounding vineyards, commissioned Charles Suisse, a talented architect of the time, to build lavish buildings in Savigny-lès-Beaune where her wines would be vinified and aged. It took no less than eight years to complete the brightly coloured property as we know it today, which is widely recognised as one of the most stunning buildings in the Burgundy winegrowing landscape. Over the years, the estate changed owners several times until it finally came into the hands of the Swiss Schenk family in 1964. Domaine Henri de Villamont is the fruit of the efforts of this prominent wine trading family. Having developed a mass-marketing business supplying over 20 million bottles a year, the family chose to rethink its approach in 2004. Over the past twenty years or so, practices in the winery and vineyard, as well as the equipment used in the vat room, have been radically modernised to produce more authentic wines, through healthier viticultural practices. Today, the estate’s production reflects the exceptional terroirs of the Côte Chablisienne and Côte Mâconnaise, with a more balanced annual output of 350,000 bottles.
