About the producer

Predominantly planted with Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Blanc, the vines of the Kientzler estate stretch on the slopes of the stunning village of Ribeauvillé. As you journey along the Alsace Wine Route, you’ll inevitably encounter the majestic 19th-century edifice that stands as a solid testament to the viticultural excellence of this operation.
Today, brothers Thierry and Eric, the fifth generation of the Kientzler family, manage the estate. Since 2009, having inherited the family expertise, they have been crafting dry white wines of exceptional aromatic purity, showcasing the minerality of their terroir. With slightly more than four hectares of Grand Cru, including 1.5 ha in the legendary Geisberg Cru – belonging to only four owners – the Kientzler family can draw on a geological wealth unrivalled in Europe. The estate promotes biodiversity through the planting of trees, flower beds and nesting boxes. The Kientzler estate received its Organic Certification in 2023.

About the wine

Kientzler owns 14 hectares of Alsace vineyards, almost 4.5 of which are classified as Grand Cru, in Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Hunawihr and Riquewihr. To produce its Gewurztraminer cuvée, the estate uses vines from two different plots. The vines growing on the Kirchberg plot, which faces south and south-west, thrive on a marl and sandstone geological profile, with a thin layer of limestone. The second parcel, named l’Ostenberg, faces the east-south-east and is larger than the first. It contains a higher concentration of limestone, adding great freshness to the estate’s dry, mineral wines.
This dual combination of Gewurztraminer grapes produces intense aromas of tropical fruit, which will retain all their finesse for the next 5 years. The palate is soft and tasty, with a subtle bitterness adding a lively edge. Although flavourful, this wine retains all the essence of its dry characteristic. An ideal wine to serve with strong-flavoured cheeses such as Münster, or a regional speciality such as a succulent onion tart.
