Information
"Être sobre, c’est boire bon,” or “Being sober is drinking well". This is the estate’s motto, which you’ll find on the label. It perfectly summarises the hedonistic spirit of these wines, full, concentrated, fruity yet delicate and fine. The estate was founded in 1959 following the marriage of Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot in 1954. Vincent Geantet now works in tandem with his son, Fabien. The estate, based in Gevrey-Chambertin, covers 22 hectares of limestone and clay-limestone soils in villages, premier crus, Marsannay, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny appellations. The estate holds a sustainable agriculture label, 100% of the grapes are destemmed and fermentation is exclusively triggered by native yeasts. Ageing is conducted in Burgundy casks.
This estate is a safe bet in the Côte de Nuits. Vincent’s daughter, Émilie Geantet, is currently establishing a wine-trading business under her name, producing more robust wines than those of the estate.
Vincent Geantet runs his family domain, which was established in the 1950s, alongside his son. Together, they produce the Gevrey-Chambertin called Les Evocelles, which was named after the shrubland that used to exist where the climat now is. The Pinot Noir grapes that make up this wine soak up the nutrients needed to blossom from the limestone, silt and clay soils that display similar characteristics to soils in the famous Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard.
This prestigious grape variety of the region is aged in wooden barrels and should undoubtedly be stored in the cellar for at least 5 years before it can be enjoyed at its full potential. When young, it has a ruby-red colour with hints of purple which develop into a beautiful roof tile red colour as time goes by. It has a variety of notes including red and black fruits, leather and humus as well as dried roses and white pepper. Enjoy with an flavourful dish.
