Information
Created in the 1960s by M. Rolet, the eponymous domaine is the second largest in the Jura region, spanning 62 heactres. The property was passed on to his children Élyane, Pierre, Bernard and Guy who sold it in 2018 to the well-known Burgundian wine family, the Devillards (of Château de Chamirey, Domaine de la Ferté, Domaine des Perdrix and Domaine de la Garenne fame). No doubt this domaine, which already produced wonderful wines, will continue to impress in the years to come.
The Rolet domain cultivates the second largest vineyard in the Jura with 66 hectares spread across the main appellations and is an essential estate for all Jura wine lovers. This oxidative Savagnin was grown on a south-facing plot in the hamlet of “Virhou”, along the slopes of the village of Voiteur. The organic vines are rooted in grey marl and fossil-rich limestone soil.
The winery uses traditional vinification techniques where the grapes are harvested and sorted by hand and then directly pressed. The wines are aged slowly – for nearly five years – sous voile, meaning the wine is matured under a layer of yeast that forms naturally while in the barrels. This long maturation gives the Savagnin its distinctive nose of walnuts, forest floor and a hint of citrus, with a robust palate marked by a pleasant acidity illustrated by notes of green apple and fresh walnut with a seductively long finish. This wine should be enjoyed within fifteen years and accompanied by a cheese platter or a walnut tarte.
