Information
Jean-Marc Blain is a native of Sancerrois and his roots in Burgundy terroirs came from his marriage to Claudine Gagnard in 1980. Today he produces wines from about twenty different appellations. The limestone soil gives the wines considerable finesse and elegance, and the marl gives them a beautiful structure. Over thirty years, the humble Jean-Marc Blain has become a great name in Chassagne, and is one of the seven owners of the exceptional Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru.
Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet shares a long-standing and well-established reputation with Puligny. Domaine Blain-Gagnard, which is located in this exceptional terroir, is renowned for producing fine, elegant wines. The estate is now offering a white wine produced from Premier Cru classified vines belonging to some of the finest plots in the Chassagne-Montrachet region. The Chardonnay vines, climbing on limestone, clay and gravel soils, are lovingly cultivated with methods akin to organic farming. The hand-picked grapes are vinified according to traditional methods. After 11 months’ ageing in oak casks, including a small proportion of new casks, the cuvée is bottled.
The bright, golden colour is enhanced by an expressive bouquet of white fruit, flowers and minerals. The complex, delicious palate elegantly reveals a combination of fruity and floral aromas, leading to a fresh, persistent mineral finish.
