Information
On 29 May 2001 Bruichladdich began producing Port Charlotte, a whisky peated to 40 ppm. Port Charlotte is now available in a wide range of versions, offering different age statements, casks and barley sources - all accompanying the distillery's other bottlings, Bruichladdich and Octomore.
A Port Charlotte 16 Year Old distilled in 2003, originally for the 2020 edition of Feis Ile, which was cancelled that year due to the covid-19 pandemic. It is a blend of three batches, the first matured in refill hogsheads then in first-fill bourbon casks from 2012 on; the second in first-fill bourbon casks, then Sauternes casks from 2013 on; and the third in sherry, bourbon and new oak casks. Feis Ile is a festival celebrating Celtic music and culture held on Islay every year since 1985 by The Islay Festival Association. The festival’’s first whisky tasting was held in 1990 and ten years later distilleries began actively participating by holding tours and releasing special editions only available on the isle during the festival. It is now a major event and very popular in the whisky world. A limited edition of 3,000 bottles, eventually sold online after a lottery.
