Information
"Être sobre, c'est boire bon”, or “Being sobre is drinking well ". This is the Domaine’s motto, written on the label. It perfectly summarises the hedonistic spirit of these wines, full, concentrated, fruity but which are delicate and fine. The domaine was founded in 1954 following the marriage of Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot. Vincent Geantet now works in tandem with his son. The domaine based in Gevrey now has 13 hectares in villages, premier crus, and in Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin as well as its plots in Chambolle and Clos-de-Vougeot. It is a reliable and safe bet of the Côte de Nuits. Vincent's daughter, Émilie Geantet, is developing a parallel trading business.
This simple Burgundy from Domaine Geantet-Pansiot is a beautifully crafted wine from a superb limestone-clay terroir. Tasting the wine reveals cherry, vanilla, dried flowers and gingerbread flavours, typical of Burgundy wines. Although the estate has long been in favour of a pre-fermentation cold maceration, it now leans towards a more classical way of making wine by fermenting the grapes, punching down the skins, and then ageing the wine. This provides the colour, tannins and consistency of their Burgundy wines. It results in colourful, powerful wines that are rounded, smooth and usually flavourful.
The estate often creates wines meant to be kept as well as wines that should be shared with friends, with nibbles or with grilled meat.
