Information
Albert Bichot is an illustrious maison of Burgundy. The family settled in Burgundy in 1350 but it was only in the 19th century that it became interested in the vine and vineyards. In 1831, Bernard Bichot developed a trading house in his name. Since 1996, Alberic Bichot (6th generation) has been working to raise the quality of wines produced. He acquired many plots, meaning that the maison now has 100 hectares of vineyards. Here we find the Clos Frantin on the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine du Pavillon and the Domaine Adélie on the Chalonnaise coast as well as the Domaine Long Depaquit in Chablis. These wines are certified as organic. At the same time, the maison carries out its trading business by purchasing only carefully selected grapes. The wines are all vinified in Beaune under the leadership of the very talented Alain Serveaux.
The Pavillon estate in Pommard comprises of four hectares and belongs to the Albert Bichot estate and company. Known for its Pommard Clos des Ursulines Premier Cru which it owns the entirety of, the Pavillon estate uses organic methods on its land. It should be noted that the Clos des Ursulines Premier Cru is one of the most flavourful wines that the Pommard terroir is known to produce. It is only since Albéric Bichot came to manage the estates in 1996 that they have found their sparkle and their consistency again. This is all thanks to the introduction of sound wine-making processes, organic methods with fine and elegant ageing producing high quality wines.
This Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru situated below the Corton Clos des Maréchaudes Grand Cru is defined by a shallower soil that does not have as much clay as its famous sibling. The name of this plot of land comes from the geography of the Savigny-lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton villages. As the lowest part between the villages was once swampy, it needed to be drained numerous times for the soil to dry out and become usable. And “maresche” meant swamp in Old French...
