Information
Amrut was founded in Bangalore in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna under the name Amrut Laboratories. The distillery initially produced “Indian-made liquor”, foreign spirits such as rum, brandy and, from the 1980s, whisky, all produced in India. The current distillery was built in 1987 and its first single malt launched in Glasgow in 2004 after several years of experimentation.
Amrut Greedy Angels is a particularly old edition of Amrut. From a Scottish perspective, ten years may seem young, but the climate is quite different in Bangalore! In India, the angels’’ share is much higher, hence the name, and the whisky ages neither at the same speed nor in the same way.
