Information
Amrut was founded in Bangalore in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna under the name Amrut Laboratories. The distillery initially produced “Indian-made liquor”, foreign spirits such as rum, brandy and, from the 1980s, whisky, all produced in India. The current distillery was built in 1987 and its first single malt launched in Glasgow in 2004 after several years of experimentation.
Are you familiar with Indian whisky yet? Although production remains fairly low-scale, this is a true national treasure, founded in 1948 in Bangalore. Here, Amrut brings us a beverage distilled from barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas and matured in warehouses at an altitude of 1,000 metres. This combination of altitude and tropical climate rapidly accelerates ageing and casks can lose up to 15% in volume per year.
This single cask was matured in bourbon casks that bring it characteristic notes of oak and spices. These are combined with aromas of tropical fruits and white flowers. The palate is opulent, complex and dominated by caramel, vanilla and a hint of cherry, ending in a long and delicious finish. This is a great discovery that enthusiasts can enjoy for themselves in a moment of contemplation or pair with bold dishes such as chocolate fondant or caviar.
