Information
The El Dorado brand was created by Demerara Distillers in 1992 with the launch of a 15 year old. The company wanted to created its own brand after the rum industry was nationalized by Guyana’s government in 1975. The first editions contained rum from Enmore, Uitvlugt and Diamond, but today everything is produced at Diamond, the last distillery still operating in the country since 2000. The El Dorado brand is now found in rums produced with various stills at Diamond, including the famous Heritage Stills Uitvlugt, Enmore, Port Mourant and Versailles.
A Versailles distilled in 2002 at Diamond using the Versailles wooden pot still and bottled at cask strength in 2015 after bourbon cask maturation for Demerara Distillers Limited’’s El Dorado brand. Created in 2016, the Rare Collection range is inspired by the work of Luca Gargano in the period when he had access to Demerara Distillers Limited’’s cellars thanks to his friendship with then CEO Yesu Persaud. The range focuses on stills, brands and cask strength bottlings.
