Information
Pittyvaich was built in 1975 near Dufftown. The distillery owes its creation to the success of Bell’‘s, which led to the need for additional production to satisfy demand. The market collapsed in the 1980s and Bell’‘s was bought by Guinness in 1985. Guinness was in turn bought by Distillers Company Limited (DCL) the following year to form United Distillers. After Whisky Loch, Pittyvaich lost its vocation, which was to produce volume, and the distillery closed in 1993 before being demolished in 2002.
A Pittyvaich 20 year old distilled in 1989 and bottled at cask strength in 2009 for the Diageo Special Releases series in a limited edition of 3,210 bottles. Launched in 2001, the Diageo Special Releases are a series of annual bottlings showcasing what the group’’s distilleries do best.
