Information
The Old Crow distillery was built in the 1830s by a Scottish emigrant, James C. Crow, master distiller for the Old Oscar Pepper distillery. After his death, the brand was bought by the owner of the Hermitage distillery, the largest distillery at the time, founded in 1868 by W. A. Gaines. After being forced to close during Prohibition, it was bought by the American Medicinal Spirits Company, one of only six companies still authorized to bottle whiskey. In 1934, when Prohibition was abolished, the Old Crow distillery reopened and produced two brands until 1987, when it was closed by its new owner, Jim Beam.
