Information
This Vosne-Romanée from Domaine Berthaut is a blend from two parcels: Au-Dessus de la rivière and Aux Réas. Around 50 years old, the Pinot noir vines are grown sustainably in chalk- and clay-rich soil. The grapes are strictly sorted and placed in concrete vats to macerate for a few days before fermentation. This allows for an extraction of colour and flavour before the indigenous yeasts do their work. Punching down and pumping over take place once fermentation is finished. The wine is then matured for fifteen months in oak casks (30% new wood) and bottled without fining or filtering. Around 4,800 bottles are produced a year, and the cuvée can be enjoyed young or after a few years of ageing. The Pinot noir comes through quite intensely here. It gives off a typical nose of red and black fruits with complex hints of leather and toasted notes. Noble and distinguished, this wine’s tannin is velvety and elegant.
