Information
Built in 1966 by Invergordon Distillers to meet increasing demand, Tamnavulin is located near the River Livet. As is to be expected, its production was at the time used for the blends of the group, which owned other distilleries, including Bruichladdich and Jura. In 1995, following a decade of overproduction and two years after Invergordon was bought by Whyte & Mackay, the distillery ceased production, only starting up again in 2007. Tamnavulin now has its own range of single malts.
Distilled shortly after construction of the Tamnavulin distillery in 1966, this single malt was bottled from casks 1,480 and 1,481 in 1986 by The Stillman’’s Dram for the Italian market. Vintage bottlings of Tamnavulin from this era are rare and only a few vintages were produced in limited quantities, with just 1,212 bottles of this edition released.
Equipped with a golden colour, this whisky opens with waxy notes that lead into a gentle hint of apples and pears and a pinch of curry. In parallel, eucalyptus and fennel aromas bring freshness and presage the fruity palate. Malt is nonetheless still very present and pepped up by sweet spices. The finish is long and gently caramelized.
