Information
“Our discovery from last year has this now confirmed its place as a future cult favourite for the region” – these are the words by which Domaine Mas Saint-Louis emerged from the shadows in 2015, named ‘discovery of the year' by Bettane and Desseauve. The style of these wines – 3 red cuvées and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape crafted since 2013 – stand out for their finesse, elegance, and indulgence. Madame Monique Geniest, reaching the end of her 87th year, is still the boss of this domain, engaged in the work of the winery and the cellar since the death of her husband Jean. The latter was the great-grandson of Jean-Louis, himself part of a long lineage of coopers. The family property, that dates back over 100 years, is now managed by Matthieu Faurie-Grépon. Thanks to the introduction of a younger team, the domain has taken a serious turn towards growing the vines as naturally as possible, with an 80% majority of Grenache grapes.
Harvests are carried out by hand once the grapes have reached optimal maturity. They are then kept in vats for up to a month before undergoing a long maturation. This ruby red cuvée has a nose that carries notes of red fruits, citrus, and toasted scents. The palate is well-balanced, presenting freshness and delicate tannins.
