Mas Saint-Louis

Over 100 years ago, along the path that joined Avignon with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Jean-Louis Geniest decided to group the family land together in order to vinify it. Over the course of generations, new acquisitions have led to the expansion of this land into a magnificent domain of 30 hectares around the famous Mas Saint-Louis. The character of these wines is one of such finesse that some of the best critics have gone as far as to compare them to the legendary Château Rayas.

“Our discovery from last year has this now confirmed its place as a future cult favourite for the region” – these are the words by which Domaine Mas Saint-Louis emerged from the shadows in 2015, named ‘discovery of the year' by Bettane and Desseauve. The style of these wines – 3 red cuvées and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape crafted since 2013 – stand out for their finesse, elegance, and indulgence. Madame Monique Geniest, reaching the end of her 87th year, is still the boss of this domain, engaged in the work of the winery and the cellar since the death of her husband Jean. The latter was the great-grandson of Jean-Louis, himself part of a long lineage of coopers. The family property, that dates back over 100 years, is now managed by Matthieu Faurie-Grépon. Thanks to the introduction of a younger team, the domain has taken a serious turn towards growing the vines as naturally as possible, with an 80% majority of Grenache grapes.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

BETTANE & DESSEAUVE

“Our discovery from last year has this year confirmed its place as a future cult property for the region. The Saint-Louis area has not historically been the most reputed in the industry, but these wines all offer a refinement in both aroma and texture that speaks for itself. It’s difficult to imagine or find a more delicate expression of Châteauneuf than in this domain’s 2012 and 2011 vintages.”

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

“The true, traditional taste of Châteauneuf. Not to be missed.” “There is a hint of Rayas to be found in this cuvée. Rare.”
