Information
Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the 10 hectare family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1990s at the age of 23. He gained his experience at Domaine Drouhin and from the legendary Henry Jayer and took over the family traditions. He has plots in Griotte-Chambertin and in the Clos St Jacques whose vines were planted at the beginning of the last century. Jean-Marie Fourier works his vines as naturally as possible, with very little intervention and with minimal use of sulphites and new wood. His wines are of a very high standard and are characterised by their great aromatic purity
Since 1990, Jean-Marie Fourrier has been cultivating his 10 hectares across the appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot. Dedicated to his terroir and the notion of identity in his wines, he practices massal selection to replace his vines and refuses any use of chemical additives in the vineyard. Once the grapes are picked and sorted, the juice is extracted intentionally gently to preserve all the purity and pop of the fruit. Almost no sulphur is used during vinification and Jean-Marie lets the indigenous yeasts do their work. The maturation in oak casks (20% new wood) lasts 18 months. This Clos Vougeot will delight fans of fine Pinot. With a rare aromatic intensity, it offers an incredible palette from violet to black cherry and chocolate notes. The palate marries powerful texture with elegant tannins. A wine that should be aged for a few years to reveal its full potential.
