Information
The Ortega Gil-Fourmier family created the domain O. Fournier at the foot of the Andes in Argentina in 2000. Mendoza is the most reputed viticultural region in Argentina as it boasts terroirs at exceptional altitudes. O. Fournier is located in Mendoza in an area named Valle de Uco (between 900 and 1250m of altitude). There is a majority of Malbec and Tempranillo. The domain takes advantage of the malleability of varietals to produce medium-bodied wines such as the cuvées Uco and Beta, as well as powerful and structured wines such as the cuvée Alpha.
The Alpha Crux Malbec cuvée is produced on a high terroir which makes it possible to combine really powerful tannins with good acidity. The climate is continental with alternating hot days and cool nights, conditions which produce thick-skinned grapes. This wine boasts a fine dark hue. The nose is woody, spicy and liquorishy, with forest floor notes. It is very full and juicy yet fresh and balanced on the palate. It has the directness of a single varietal, but this is counterbalanced by supple, classy tannins and a delicate long finish.
