Information
Located in the municipality of Sury-en-Vaux and Maimbray (to the north of Sancerre), Domaine du Pré Semelé was created in the 1940s, with only 3 hectares to begin with. Three generations later, the vineyard spans 20 hectares and the brothers Julien and Clément Raimbault manage the property together. The vineyard is managed sustainably and takes inspiration from organic viticulture. Grass is allowed to grow between rows so as to promote competition and force the roots to dig deep into the soils for their nutrients. In the winery, vinifications are low intervention and natural. The domain's wines are defined by their intensity, finesse and purity. In 2017, the Revue du vin de France named the cuvée ‘Les Chasseigne' the second-best Sauvignon in the world.
This very appealing red Sancerre is a single-variety Pinot Noir cultivated according to environmentally friendly principles and matured for between ten months and a year in casks (10-30% new wood). On tasting, it reveals attractive, concentrated notes of black berries and a subtle, elegant woodiness. Rich yet silky, it can be enjoyed with small game or a gratin of autumn vegetables.
