Information
Domaine des Rois Mages was created by Burgundian Anne-Sophie Debavelaere in 1984, starting with an estate in Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise. She has since expanded into Bouzeron and Beaune. The domain now grows 10 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté with integrated farming. After harvest, the grapes are meticulously sorted pressed and vinified in either oak barrels or stainless-steel vats. The wines are matured in oak barrels.
Unconventionally, it was a woman who founded Domaine des Rois Mages. Burgundian Anne-Sophie Debavelaere set out on the adventure in 1984, from a property in Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise. She runs a slick operation, allowing her to subsequently expand towards Bouzeron and Beaune. Today she grows Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté over 10 hectares, using environmentally-friendly methods. Once harvested, the grapes are scrupulously sorted and undergo gentle pressing before vinification either in oak barrels or stainless steel vats. The wine is matured in oak barrels.
Anne-Sophie Debavelaere and her enologist Félix Debavelaere produce a really unusual Rully Blanc. This single variety Chardonnay balances liveliness with fruit aromas. On the palate it is at once taut and full bodied with an excellent length. Such aromatic intensity allows for pairings with rich and flavoursome food; the producer recommends pairing with strong-flavoured soft cheeses, or even with an onion tart.
This Pinot Noir from the Côte Chalonnaise has been grown according to environmentally-friendly methods. Grapes are harvested at optimal maturity and ferment with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, before maturing for one year in oak barrels. Its lovely ruby colour delivers red and dark fruit aromas. Silken and delicious, it can be enjoyed when young and fruit-forward.
