Information
Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.
The Aligoté that goes into making this cuvée is grown sustainably in the lieu-dit ‘Les Champs d’Argent’. Between 25 and 40 years old, the vines benefit from a terroir that sits at 240 metres of altitude, its soils rich in gravel and chalky pebbles. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted meticulously. Vinified without destemming, the Aligoté is matured in stainless steel vats to preserve the freshness and vivacity of its aromatic notes. The wine is bottled quite early, too, for the same reason. When tasting, we discover a pale golden colour that gives off typical notes of white fruit, white flowers, citrus and vegetal aromas. On the palate there is an energy and a tartness. These characteristics make this a good aperitif wine. Alternatively, it can be served with simple, traditional dishes such as grilled sausage or charcuterie.
