Information
The Ojai vineyard is located in southern California in the Santa Barbara region (near Santa Cruz), in a small town whose name it has adopted. It was established in 1983 by Adam and Helen Tolmach, thus making it one of the oldest in the region. Adam had worked in Burgundy and the Rhône, and wanted to introduce the techniques he learned in these regions to his Californian wines. The vineyard is planted with Sauvignon and Syrah and small quantities of grapes are bought in. This domaine has established its credentials as a reference winery for the region with its very subtle wines, carefully balanced flavours and long finishes.
This wine is produced from a blend of several parcels from Bien Nacido, Solomon Hills, Presidio and Fe Ciega. The wine is raised for 15 months in French barrels. The colour is deeper than that of a Burgundian Pinot Noir. The nose is sublime, with notes of stewed red fruits. On the palate it is superb, generous, with a light sweetness.
