Information
Domaine Valentin Zusslin is a longtime darling of critics and wine guides (including Bettane & Desseauve and the RVF). The 16 hectare estate which is based in Orschwihr, just south of Colmar, converted to biodynamic viticulture in 1997. Wines are produced from a total of 9 different grape varieties, featuring crystalline whites and structured Pinot Noirs perfect for cellaring.
Gewürztraminer sceptics do exist. And yet, so does this gloriously aromatic, lively, unctuous, bitingly mineral cuvée. This is a top-notch wine from the biodynamic Domaine Valentin Zusslin: rich and full-bodied with delicious notes of fruit and spice; lifted by a lip-smacking freshness, it makes the perfect accompaniment to curried white meat, with coconut-based sauce. The vines are grown on an exceptional terroir, with ferrous clay-limestone soil and a perfect south-east facing aspect. Following a rigorous sorting, vinification takes place in vats and maturation in barrels for at least a year. We rave about this cuvée at iDealwine.
