Information
Domaine Ballot-Millot, located in Meursault, is a historic family farm of the Côte de Beaune, which has been in existence since the 17th century. Charles Ballot has been running the domaine since 2000 and is the fifteenth generation of his family at the head of the vineyard. The farm, which today extends over 12 hectares, has very fine plots of Meursault, Pommard and Volnay. For the last ten years or so, a much more natural and environmentally friendly approach has been taken for vinification: chemical weed-killers have been banned for soil tillage, and their treatment has become more sustainable and parsimonious. Charles Ballot produces very pure, classy and elegant wines. The whole range is very regular and of a high standard. Furthermore, this domaine maintains very reasonable prices!
The vineyards of the Burgundy appellation border Meursault Villages. The parcels here are rich in clay and chalk lending themselves to wines with a generous yet sharp texture. Patience is the key to the success of Charles Ballot. Pressing is done slowly and the fermentation and élevage periods are long. The wait is more than worthwhile though. Sweet smelling and ripe citrus fruit with spicy and empyreumatic notes are just some of the aromas to delight the nose. And on the palate, creaminess gives way to a refreshing mineral finish.
