Information
Domaine Sainte Barbe, located in Viré, was created in 1967 by Josette and Jean-Noël Chaland, when the vineyard came out of the cooperative system. The vineyard extends over 9 hectares; it has been worked naturally (ploughed, no herbicides ...) for many years and certified for organic farming since 2003. Just under a hectare of old vines of Gamay in Mâcon-Burgy appellation is added to the majority of Chardonnay. Over half the vines are over 50 years old. The wines of this domaine show great finesse and are particularly fruity, with a very good quality / price ratio.
This family-run domain uses a carbonic maceration process typical of the Mâcon region. The wine is matured in demi-muid barrels and bottled on site without filtration. Its constituent Gamay grapes are cultivated in clay, sandstone, sand and limestone soils. This wine, which could be described as "natural", reveals a complex nose consisting of spicy, smoky chocolate and coffee notes. The palate is racy, elegant and mineral, marked with red berry flavours. Superb with game terrines or red meat.
