Information
Sitting in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, Domaine Les Bruyères is managed by the passionate David Reynaud. He presides over a total of 28 hectares of vines (he owns 20 and buys the grapes from 8) which he has converted to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Reynaud gives prominence to Syrah, the indigenous grape variety representing 87% of the total vine population, complemented by Merlot and Viognier. Yields are controlled to around 35 hectolitres per hectare, growing on terraces which present a mixture of limestone, clay and pebble. Wines are vinified and matured in an underground cellar. When the grapes come in, they are go into concrete vats for the reds and stainless steel vats for the whites.
David Reynaud’s grandfather was known for his love of food and the good things in life, but also for his excellent advice. Convinced that he would have loved these wines, David has named this cuvée in his grandfather's honour. Its Syrah is cultivated in line with biodynamic principles on limestone and clay soil, and the wine is matured in barriques and concrete tanks for one year. It is ruby in colour with notes of dark fruits, spice and violets. Elegant tannins add structure and a delightful mineral backbone gives the wine its energy. This cuvée will keep for several years in the cellar when it will make a sublime pairing with game or other hearty foods.
