Information
In 1999, Alsace winemakers, the Krydenweiss family bought Domaine des Perrières in the Gard, marking a turning point in their business. Having a particular interest in the Carignan grape, the family wanted to cultivate the varieties found in the Midi and to produce red wines in this fertile region far from their home region. Antoine Kreydenweiss has been running the family’s Alsace property in Andlau since 2007. He has taken the biodynamic and natural approaches introduced by his father even further, reducing or even doing away completely with sulphur additives in the wine.
Les Grimaudes is a blend of Carignan and Grenache grapes grown on iron-rich soil composed of Rhône pebbles (gress), silica, limestone, flint, and sandstone. This domaine, which boasts biodynamic certification, harvests by hand. Macerations last between 10 and 15 days and temperature is controlled. Natural yeasts are used for fermentation. Wine is aged 50% in barrels and 50% in wooden vats. The wine delivers a wealth of dark berry flavours and liquorice. It is fresh and supple on the palate and is ideal for gatherings with friends around a generous charcuterie and cheese platter.
