Information
It has now been thirty years since Gilles Berlioz changed career paths from landscaping to wine making. Passionate and modest, he is careful in the cultivation of his Chignin terroirs, going as far as to work his land with horses. Converted to organic growing in 2005, this 5-hectare domain has recently been certified biodynamic by Demeter. The wines, vinified as one cuvée per terroir, are wonderfully accomplished, pure, mineral and delicate. They aren't made in large quantities, but these cuvées perfectly represent their terroirs. Impassioned by the evolution of his work, Gilles Berlioz is always looking for new ways to improve his vines and growing techniques, always with the aim of better respecting the nature that surrounds him.
Chignin is one of the great Grand Crus of the Savoie. This number is made solely using organically-grown Jacquère grapes, farmed on stony soils of glacial moraine, clay and limestone. Its slightly golden colour is particularly limpid and its floral bouquet reveals a perfect balance of minerality and fruit. On the palate, the wine is opulent and delightfully fresh. This wine should be drunk young, and pairs perfectly with mussels in a cream sauce or fish in a butter sauce.
