Information
Established at the end of the 19th century, Domaine Coursodon has been in the same family for generations and has practised sustainable farming for several decades. Its 15 hectares of vineyards, all within the Saint-Joseph appellation, are cultivated for both red and white Saint-Joseph wines (13 hectares red and 2 hectares white). Located primarily in the Mauves area, the vineyard's granite terroir is ideal for growing Syrah. Pierre Coursodon and his son Jérôme currently manage the property and produce delicate and elegant wines.
Syrah comes from sixty-year-old vines, planted in shallow, pure granite soils with a southerly exposure on steep slopes. They are sustainably cultivated, and harvested by hand. Maceration and fermentation take place in open tanks for a little less than three weeks, with two daily punch-downs. This Saint-Joseph is then matured for 15 months in barrels, with a small proportion of new wood. Its intense garnet colour delivers complex, concentrated aromas of fruits and spices. Its length is impressive. This rich, powerful wine should be drunk in 10 years' time, and is absolutely divine with ravioli, porcini mushrooms and foie gras.
