Information
Domaine du Comte Armand, also known as Domaine des Epeneaux, has enjoyed a good reputation for a long time but it has increased its recognition since the arrival of Benjamin Leroux who has steered the wines towards more refinement and elegance. However, the different cuvées have kept one of the characteristic features of this area which is to produce powerful and rich wines. The cuvée of Clos des Epeneaux is particularly renowned and all the wines of Domaine Comte Armand are today considered a reference point in Burgundy. The domaine is now run organically.
Located at the foot of the slopes in the heart of the Pommard appellation area, this famous estate is farmed biodynamically since 1988. The cuvée was sold under the name "Clos de Epeneaux" and is one of the largest monopole vineyards in Bourgogne. The wines come exclusively from parcels with minimum 20-year-old vines; the grapes coming from more recent vines are "downgraded" to the domain's Pommard Village cuvée. A rigorous selection process results in a deep and distinctive wine, two qualities that are highly appreciated by connoisseurs, as well as its beautiful structure. Very tannic as a young wine, it is nonetheless a generous and full wine with a delicacy rare in Pommard. Not to mention the impressive procession of aromas that are released: candied red fruit, plum, violet, old rose, leather and mild spices. To pair this wine with a meal, opt for game. It will sit nicely in a cellar for decades.
