Bordeaux | 2005 vintage
A homogeneous harvest with grapes in perfect sanitary condition and of a reasonable quantity (6 millions hl): this was an exceptional vintage! Ideal weather conditions from May onwards ¿ continual sunshine without excessive heat, very little rain and cool nights ¿ resulted in a slow ripening, characteristic of the legendary years of Bordeaux. The Merlots were as successful as the Cabernets: intense and elegant fruit, with balance, depth, richness, concentration and great freshness, and an almost unlimited cellaring capacity. These wines are often compared to those of 2000, 1989 and 1982, but only time will tell us if they are to be as good. The sweet wines were also spectacular with a beautiful sugar/alcohol/acidity balance, as well as delicious confit, roasted and grilled overtones, combined with fine woody notes. More classical than those of the exceptional 2003 vintage, they are nevertheless comparable to, or even better than, the magnificent 2001 and 1997 wines.
