Alsace | 2010 vintage

Unlike almost all other vineyards in France, Alsace experienced a fairly difficult time in 2010. The winter was extremely long and harsh (temperatures dropped to -20° in Ribeauvillé in late December), which damaged young vines in some areas. Spring was cool and wet for a long time and summer was very unsettled and rather chaotic - fine and hot in July and rather wet and cool in August. Despite these difficult and variable conditions, many exacting wine growers with well-cultivated vines coped very well. They were therefore able to produce fine wines which are rather fresh, boasting fine, ripe acidity with a more traditional balance than in 2009. Rieslings and Pinot Gris wines are particularly accomplished. It should be noted that yields were distinctly lower than the usual average (-25%).
