Mongeard-Mugneret

How could anyone stand out in the prestigious region of Burgundy, where the terroir, varietals and vinification methods look so alike in the eyes of enthusiasts? Vincent Mongeard has faith in his experience and in the quality of his raw material, crafting classic, racy and delicate cuvées. And this wine maker has his own little secret, surprising us with his love for the Malbec varietal, grown on a little parcel at the heart of the Côte de Nuits.

Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

‘These wines play on a velvety texture, a good, oaky flavour, and a certain sweetness, with a particularly splendid Grands-Echezeaux.’
