While this family domain is still not very well known, Domaine des Tilleuls produces excellent Côte de Nuits that combine the region’s tradition of cellaring wines with the current trend of silky, elegant wines that are delicious at all ages. The domain strives to produce grapes that are as healthy as possible and elevates the wines with short élevages in meticulously selected barrels. One to watch.
Domaine des Tilleuls is an excellent name that is passed on by Burgundy connoisseurs. The 1920 family domaine is located in the heart of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. It is now Philippe Livera’s son, Damien who runs the domaine. The vineyards are managed in a responsible, sustainable way to minimise the use of external substances. The vines, almost exclusively of Pinot Noir, are covered in grass. Special care is taken for the soil. The domaine has very beautiful plots in the appellations Gevrey village, Fixin, Côtes-de-Nuits-villages and Chapelle-Chambertin. Fermentation is long and all wines are aged in oak barrels for 11 to 18 months.

Damien Livéra is a talented young winemaker who was inspired by his friend Arnaud Mortet’s style of winemaking. With his sister Hélène, who takes care of the administrative side of things as well as the vineyards, the domain’s wines have come a long way: their colour, fragrance, and personality have brought these wines to our attention in blind tastings since 2007.
