Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Simon Bize & Fils 2012
The wine
The Chardonnay vines are not exactly in their first flush of youth, having been planted in 1938 on the south-west slope of the hill of Corton. This rich, powerful wine is counterbalanced by a mineral touch. This grand cru deserves a cellaring of eight to ten years before tasting.
About the Producer Simon Bize et Fils
Simon Bize created his domaine in 1880 in Savigny les Beaune. Four generations later, Patrick Bize took over the family domaine in 1972 and managed it until he passed away in 2013, when his sister, Marielle Grivot, took over. The quality of the wines is consistent, with fine reds, sublime and very precise white wines. This 22-hectare area produces small quantities and maintains reasonable prices, which therefore limits its availability.
