Vinos de Madrid DO Comando G DO Reina de Los Deseos 2021

The wine

Comando G has a particular fondness for the Garnacha grape, hence the ‘G’ in the domain name. This cuvée is a single-varietal Grenache made using old vines cultivated biodynamically. They enjoy an ideal location at 800 metres of altitude in the mountains of Sierra de Gredos, allowing for the creation of fresh wines.
In the same vein, the aim of the vinifications is to make delicate cuvées. This is why the bunches are destemmed before a cold maceration. The temperature is controlled as the grapes ferment and the wine is matured for 14 months in French oak casks.
In the glass we find a lovely expression of this southern varietal. Unfortunately produced in small quantities, it draws you in with red fruit aromas, a masterful acidity, and fine tannins. Pair it with summer vegetable gratin, grilled aubergine, or gnocchi with dried tomatoes.

About the Producer Daniel Gomez Jimenez-Landi

Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia are childhood friends. They decided to crzeate Comando G in 2008 in the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region, not far from Madrid. The went on the search for vineyards planted in the most difficult, remote areas. Garnacha (Grenache) is their grape variety of choice, and their ambition is to make wines which rival the elegance and finesse of a Burgundian Pinot Noir or a Syrah from Hermitage. The 10-hectare domain is entirely biodynamic, and the vines aged 50 to 80 years, planted between 850 and 1,200 metres of altitude on soils of sand, granite, ardoise and quartz. The combination of well-draining soils, high altitude and a clement micro-climate guarantees a long growing season, wines which are not too high in alcohol and extremely refined.
