Lot presentation
Alsace Riesling Grand Cru Pfingstberg Valentin Zusslin (Domaine) 2012
The wine
Grand Cru Pfingstberg enjoys an ideal microclimate: lying at 300m altitude, it has a largely south-facing aspect and is sheltered from the rain by the Vosges mountains. The steep slope often demands winegrowers to install terraces for vine plantation. These are perfect conditions for cultivating Riesling, whose fruit is meticulously selected to produce a delicately candied wine; its fresh acidity gives it a racy edge with incredible persistant aromas.
About the Producer Valentin Zusslin
Domaine Valentin Zusslin is a longtime darling of critics and wine guides (including Bettane & Desseauve and the RVF). The 16 hectare estate which is based in Orschwihr, just south of Colmar, converted to biodynamic viticulture in 1997. Wines are produced from a total of 9 different grape varieties, featuring crystalline whites and structured Pinot Noirs perfect for cellaring.
